Features:
Lines of Force are one of the most important features of the Galaxy Plan and play a central role in defining the ‘dynamic movement’ of this plan form. They create a ‘hill like’ ambiance in the city area while at the same time providing the possibility of compact development, optimising the use of land and efficient service infrastructure.
Design Brief:
Urban design of the Line of Force, study of sustainable materials and detailed design of one phase. This study and proposal has been submitted to the Planning Office of Auroville by the project holders in October 2018 and the inputs being worked upon.
Design Intervention:
Dwelling unit inspired from form of tent for client who is a mountain climber. The solidity and firmness along with sense of tranquility that the house emanates is inspired from the personality of the client and our interpretation of it.
Our take away:
Embarking on designing a Line of Force, even the smallest, requires a thorough understanding of the Vision behind the given form. Study of the Lines of Force helped us gain insight into the future of collective living systems, where density can be achieved with inclusion of landscape and where the
porosity and hierarchy of individual and collective spaces can be used to enhance connectivity and generate the spirit of collaboration.
