Brief:
Area analysis and Massing exploration
Scope of Study:
This document for the Line of Goodwill is a study initiated and guided by Helmut Schmid and undertaken by PATH as a base line document required to start the planning and design related work on the LoG by different potential consultants. The study takes a 400x400m square area for documentation and analysis and explores the massing based on the study of sections and the vision given. This makes it an interesting case study having the potential to address numerous issues regarding multiple urban level networks as well as Urban Design of the Township and thereby can be a platform for the framing of various related policies of mixed landuse.
Features:
Lines of Force are one of the most important features of the Galaxy Plan and play a central role in defining the ‘dynamic movement’ of this plan form. They create a ‘hill like’ ambiance in the city area while at the same time providing the possibility of compact development, optimising the use of land
and efficient service infrastructure.
Roger’s sketches for the Lines of Force reveal a porous fabric of buildings which are placed in a continuous punctuated band. Plans at various levels may show scattered development, but with a genius stepping up of the built fabric on both sides as well as unifying elements, there is given a possibility of forming a series of connected built spaces.
Our Take Away:
Study of the Lines of Force helped us gain insight into the future of collective living systems, where density can be achieved with inclusion of landscape and where the porosity and hierarchy of individual and collective spaces can be used to enhance connectivity and generate the spirit of collaboration.
